Rechargeable Bulb 15W E27 Kampala — UGX 30,000 Delivered

850 lumens · 4-5 hour battery backup · Auto-charge on mains · Same-day boda delivery

15W rechargeable LED emergency bulb glowing warm light in a Kampala home during a UEDCL power outage — PowerBulb.ug

The 15W Rechargeable LED Emergency Bulb is the single most useful purchase a Kampala household can make against UEDCL load shedding. It screws into any standard E27 socket — the same one your current bulb uses — charges automatically whenever mains power is on, and keeps running for 4 to 5 hours on battery the instant UEDCL cuts out. No switch to flip, no cable to plug, no candles to light. One UGX 30,000 purchase replaces UGX 15,000 per month in candles and kiosk charges. Payback in two months.

How auto-charge and auto-switch works

The bulb contains a small controller circuit between the E27 contact and the LED array. When mains power is present (85-265V AC detected on the pins), the circuit powers the LED directly AND trickle-charges the two internal 18650 cells. When mains power disappears — a UEDCL cut, a tripped circuit breaker, a yaka token exhaustion — the circuit detects the loss in under 100 milliseconds and switches the LED to battery power. The handover is seamless: from the room's perspective the light simply stays on.

There is no user action required. You do not need to flip a switch, unscrew the bulb, press a button, or plug anything in. The bulb behaves like a normal light that happens to ignore power cuts.

What 15W really means for a Kampala room

Energy labelling in Uganda is inconsistent. Some sellers on Jiji call a 9W bulb "emergency" and others call a 20W bulb "standard." Here is what each wattage realistically covers:

WattageLumensBest for
9W LED (emergency)~450Reading light, bathroom, corridor — insufficient for full room
12W LED~700Small bedroom (3×3m), kitchen counter
15W LED (our standard)~850Living room, master bedroom, full 4×4m room
18W LED~1,200Large living room (5×5m+), open-plan kitchen
24W LED~1,600Shop, salon, restaurant front-of-house

For most Kampala middle-class homes, 15W is the right balance — bright enough for a full living room or master bedroom, but not overkill for battery runtime. If you are fitting out a salon or shop where brightness matters more than runtime, ask us on WhatsApp about the 24W version.

The honest framing: if you already spend UGX 15,000 per month on candles, a 15W rechargeable bulb pays for itself in two months. Every month after that is pure savings — plus you get rid of the fire risk that candles put on your dining table.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a 15W rechargeable bulb in Kampala?

UGX 30,000 delivered. Jumia Uganda lists similar 15W rechargeable bulbs at UGX 35,000-79,900. Jiji sellers price between UGX 20,000 and UGX 35,000 with less consistent quality.

Will a 15W LED replace a 60W incandescent?

Yes. 15W LED produces ~850 lumens, matching a traditional 60W incandescent (~800 lumens). Same brightness, 75% less electricity.

How long does the battery last during UEDCL outages?

4 to 5 hours from full charge. Most Kampala outages are 4-8 hours, so a fully-charged bulb covers most of a typical evening blackout. Recharges automatically in 6-8 hours when mains is back.

Does the bulb fit my socket?

Yes, if your current bulb is E27 (screws in clockwise). This covers ~95% of Ugandan residential lamp fittings. Does not fit B22 bayonet sockets.

Does it handle UEDCL voltage swings?

Yes. 85-265V AC input range far exceeds Uganda's 180-250V actual range. No stabiliser required for the bulb itself.

Can I pay on delivery?

Yes. Cash, MTN Mobile Money, or Airtel Money when the boda rider arrives. No upfront payment.
